A guest at the HSZG

Saxon State Ministry for Science, Culture and Tourism hosts summer reception at the HSZG.

On August 31, 2023, shortly before the meteorological start of fall, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences played a special role as host: Sebastian Gemkow, Minister of State for Science, had extended an invitation to a summer reception. Traditionally, this summer reception takes place each year at a different academic institution in the Free State of Saxony. This year, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was selected. Unfortunately, the minister himself was unable to attend due to a special session of the Saxon State Parliament; he was represented by Dr. Andreas Handschuh, State Secretary at the Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism (SMWK).

Just as the guests arrived, the sun came out—so both the HSZG and Zittau were shown in their best light. The invitation was accepted by the presidents of Saxony’s universities and the University of Cooperative Education in Saxony, the directors of research institutions in Saxony, and representatives of the SMWK.

It was an honor for Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to have hosted the summer reception of the State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism. It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss important topics and get to know one another better.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, President of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

In a pleasant atmosphere, guests have the opportunity to network, exchange ideas and get to know each other. In which direction are research and science moving? Where should future (higher education) policy priorities be set for researchers and students? What potential can be leveraged together? These are questions that the guests discussed over a cold drink.
