Work. Experience. Discover.

The IAESTE program, which is part of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), facilitates a global exchange of interns. Through the “International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience,” students in STEM fields have the opportunity—in line with the motto “Work. Experience. Discover.”—to gain practical experience, apply their foreign language skills, and, above all, develop intercultural competencies.

For more than 15 years, the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology (IPM) has offered two to three internship positions annually for students from abroad and, together with the university, serves as an ambassador for German engineering excellence. The IPM team provides reliable, high-quality support for the interns—who typically participate during the summer months for 8 to 12 weeks. This is reflected in the positive feedback: Since 2001, 38 students from all over the world have completed their internships at the IPM and have consistently been very satisfied, as reflected in their experience reports. The IPM’s program enables students from Zittau and Görlitz to participate in this exchange program as well.

This is why the national committee of the IAESTE network in Bonn decided to award the prize to the IPM.

Daniel Fiß is a research associate at the IPM and, on December 2, 2020, accepted the award on behalf of the institute from the Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, during the IPM’s general meeting.
