Science you can touch
In bright sunshine, Görlitz's Postplatz was transformed into a lively science mile at the Science Festival. The HSZG was there.
On September 20, 2025, amid warm late-summer weather, the Hi!Lusatia Science Festival drew numerous guests from Görlitz, Zgorzelec, and the surrounding region. Under the theme “oha! The Adventure of Science,” Postplatz was transformed into a lively hub for exploration, wonder, and experimentation.
The HSZG right in the thick of it
At the mobile learning center, the “Airlab,” visitors could get hands-on: children, teens, and adults could experiment with the 3D printer and laser cutter, control robot cars, or familiarize themselves with state-of-the-art technology. The booth was staffed by Robert Viertel and his team, who invited guests to actively try things out.
Scientific projects from the university were also showcased: Professor Fester presented the hemp root project by the early-career research group at ZIRKON, which drew a great deal of interest. In addition, the booth encouraged visitors to strike up a conversation and learn more about the degree programs and the wide range of opportunities available at the HSZG.
A festival for the whole family
The science festival was part of a colorful city weekend that ranged from the Jakobstraßenfest to the Mobility Mile and Postplatz to the family festival organized by the Görlitz Local Alliance for Families. Together, the various activities transformed the city center into a place full of discoveries, encounters and a good atmosphere.
Take part and win
The popular rally for children was very popular, with young explorers collecting stamps at various stations and winning great prizes. Many children enthusiastically mastered all the tasks and experienced science in a fun way.
With the combination of family festival, strolling, science and mobility mile, we have set a strong signal for cohesion, neighborhood and living together.
The Science Festival was organized by Hi!Lusatia e.V. in collaboration with the Saxon Agency for Structural Development GmbH and supported by numerous partners, including research institutions, companies, and universities from across the region.
Conclusion
For Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the event provided a valuable opportunity to bring science to life and engage in dialogue with people from the region. It allowed the university to share practical insights into research and teaching and to foster a lasting interest in scientific topics.
