We mourn the loss of Stella Silbermann

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ms. Stella Silbermann, a member of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, on July 1, 2023, following a serious illness.

Stella Silbermann was born on December 19, 1988, in Leipzig and grew up in Löbau. After graduating from high school in Löbau, she initially enrolled in the “Maritime Technology” program at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences for two semesters before deciding to return to her hometown and study “Energy and Environmental Technology” at Zittau/Görlitz. There, she also successfully completed her master’s degree in “Mechanical Engineering and Energy Technology” with a specialization in “Plastics Technologies” in 2018.

Since 2015, Stella Silbermann has worked as a research assistant on various research projects at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology (IPM) at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. She worked in Prof. Frank Hentschel’s research group on the project “LaNDER³—Lausitz Natural Fiber Composites: Decentralized Energy, Raw Materials, Resources, Recycling” and in the Graduate Research Training Program “New Systems for Resource Conservation” led by Prof. Jens Meinert. Since April 2021, Ms. Silbermann has been employed in the Energy Systems Engineering Department under Prof. Matthias Kunick on the project “SBRS-AC²—Rapid Calculation of Real Gas Mixture Properties in the AC² Software System.” With great dedication, she made valuable contributions to these and other projects. Stella Silbermann was highly regarded by all members of the faculty, not least because of her friendliness and collegiality. She made many friends among her colleagues, who describe her as a kind, selfless, and modest person.

In addition to her work at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Stella Silbermann volunteered as an instructor and administrative assistant with the German Life-Saving Association (DLRG Zittau District e. V.). This, too, shows how important the well-being of others was to her and how selflessly she dedicated herself to others.

We mourn the loss of Stella Silbermann, whom we will greatly miss as a person and as a colleague.
