The HSZG’s research activities are diverse and extensive—the range of topics spans from energy-related challenges to modern materials development and societal transformation processes.
As a university of applied sciences, our goal is to ensure the transfer of knowledge and to apply the results of our research to the development of the region’s economic strength. To support collaboration with local companies, the “Workshop Discussions” format was developed in partnership with the Dresden Chamber of Crafts (HWK) and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), Zittau branch, to initiate dialogue between business and academia and promote professional exchange.
The second event in this series took place at the end of April, bringing together 20 business representatives from the region and seven KIA-Web students (
), to discuss the topic of “automation technology” with professors from the Institute for Process Engineering, Process Automation, and Measurement Technology (IPM).
At the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory (ZKWL)—the IPM’s largest research complex, housed in a building belonging to Zittau’s municipal utilities—the three test facilities were presented: The Thermochemical Test Facility I (Prof. Zschunke), the Magnetic Bearing Test Facility (Prof. Worlitz), and the Thermal Energy Storage System (Prof. Kratzsch and Prof. Kästner). These facilities, newly constructed in recent years, will enable research in key areas of the “Energy and Environment” research focus: increasing the efficiency of centralized and decentralized power generators with the aid of storage systems, as well as boosting the performance of large bearings through magnetic bearing technology. Through the presentations and direct discussions, the capabilities of the ZKWL were showcased, and initial ideas for concrete collaborations were discussed.
