When the 'aha effect' leads to Upper Lusatia

New video series 'hier_angekommen' by the Public Relations Office presents students who have made their home here.

At first glance, Nino Gehler from the Schwerin area, Johanna Schubert from Franconia and the Tunisian Sadok Fennira don't have much in common. But they do have one thing in common. They all left their home region to study at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and decided to move to Upper Lusatia.

In the new video series 'hier_angekommen' , which will be presented here on the HSZG website and the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz YouTube channel this winter semester, they explain what prompted them to do so, what advantages they have now discovered for themselves and how they have turned a mere place of study into a real home.

The three-part series kicks off with a portrait of Nino Gehler. Under the title: "A northern light between garden shovel and Bunsen burner" , the 27-year-old student talks about his enthusiasm for his degree course Ecology and Environmental Protection at the HSZG.

He particularly emphasizes the practical relevance and is pleased that the region is naturally integrated into the teaching in the form of excursions. "The connections between the nature of soils and the growth of plants become clearest on site. You then realize how everything flows together and the 'aha effect' comes," reports the landscape gardener. It was precisely this kind of effect that persuaded him to settle down in his shared flat of around 20 people. His video tells the story of how he is committed to his university and his work with young talent, while at the same time managing to enjoy his student life to the full.

On behalf of the Public Relations department, Christiane Matthieu is responsible for the camera and editing, to whom we would like to express our sincere thanks.

In the coming weeks, Johanna Schubert from Franconia and Sadok Fennira from Tunisia will present their reasons for 'arriving here'.
