Forest beauty vs. forest damage
The City of Zittau and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are hosting a photo contest for Environment Day 2019
Since 2000, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has been successfully hosting an “Environment Day” each year, with different themes each time. Since 2010, this event has been organized and carried out in close cooperation with the City of Zittau. Our goal is to bring together Zittau, Görlitz, and the surrounding region—including its people and economy—to raise awareness of shared sustainable development in various areas and to foster dialogue. This year, “Environment Day” will take place in Zittau on November 13 (Görlitz on November 14). Under the motto “WaldMeister,” the theme will be forests in the context of climate change. To help shape the day’s activities, we are calling for entries in a themed photo contest.
Call for Entries: Photo Contest – “Perspectives: Forest Beauty vs. Forest Damage”
For the “WaldMeister” Environment Day on November 13–14, 2019, we’re looking for your most beautiful and most alarming photos of our regional forests and woodlands in the Görlitz district.
Digital photos (taken by an individual) may be submitted:
- of a beautiful forest scene or forest damage (i.e., 1 photo)* from the Görlitz district
- a photo of a beautiful forest scene and one of forest damage (i.e., 2 photos)* from the Görlitz district
(*forest flora (e.g., trees, shrubs, flowering plants, mushrooms) and/or forest fauna (e.g.,
deer, wild boars, squirrels) at different times of day and seasons, or following storm damage,
bark beetle infestations, lightning strikes, forest fires, etc.).
The Environment Day organizing team will select the 20 most impressive
photos, which will then be printed and exhibited. The 20 winners will be notified by email at
approximately 14 days after the submission deadline. The 20 winning photos
will be exhibited at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences on Environment Day and, following
Environment Day, will be shown in a traveling exhibition at various locations in Zittau and Görlitz
