The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill a W2 professorship in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science as soon as possible for

 

“Theoretical Computer Science, with a focus on Algorithms and Data Structures” (m/f/d)

- Reference Number EI-065 -

on a full-time basis.

The position involves serving as a substitute for the above-mentioned professorship in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the following areas:

 

  • Theoretical Computer Science,
  • Algorithms and Data Structures.

 

In addition to IT-related qualifications, experience in interdisciplinary research or practical applications is particularly required for this position.

 

Teaching responsibilities must be carried out to a high standard of academic and pedagogical quality in lectures, seminars, exercises, lab sessions, and projects, as well as in continuing education programs, and must be further developed both independently and in close collaboration with the faculties. In doing so, the educational content must also reflect the values and standards of the HSZG regarding responsible conduct toward fellow human beings, society, and the environment.

 

Appointment Requirements

 

  • a completed, academic university degree in a field related to the area of appointment,
  • demonstrated pedagogical aptitude through teaching or training experience,
  • a special aptitude for scholarly work, typically demonstrated by the quality of a doctoral dissertation,
  • outstanding achievements in the application or development of academic knowledge and methods during, as a rule, five years of professional practice in the field of computer science, at least three of which must have been spent outside the higher education sector.

 

Teaching in the field of appointment must be ensured university-wide in degree programs with and without a primary focus on IT. Therefore, particular pedagogical and university-level teaching aptitude with regard to instructing students who are not majoring in computer science is of special interest. If necessary, the incumbent must teach classes / courses related to the field of appointment. The practical relevance of the teaching must be ensured on an ongoing basis.

 

The professorship will focus primarily on the fundamental/theoretical education of students; this constitutes an exceptional case pursuant to §59(5) of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG), and the application of §59(1)(4), letter c of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) may be waived, provided that §58(1)(4)(a) of the Saxon Higher Education Act (SächsHSG) is fulfilled. Reference is made to the Law on Universities in the Free State of Saxony (Saxon Higher Education Act—SächsHSG) of May 31, 2023 (SächsGVBl. 2023 No. 12, p. 329).

 

We expect you to have

 

  • the ability and willingness to teach in English as well; knowledge of an Eastern European language is welcome due to the university’s geographic location in the border region of the Germany/Czech Republic/Poland tri-border area,
  • a sustained commitment to independently conducting research and development in your field of appointment in addition to your teaching responsibilities,
  • active participation in the university’s International Affairs efforts and the further development of the department,
  • the assumption of responsibilities in academic self-governance, as well as
  • active participation in projects related to knowledge and technology transfer.
