Reading Aloud Day at the 'Studienkolleg' (preparatory college)

Reading Aloud Day, which has been held annually in Germany since 2004, was celebrated at the Zittau 'Studienkolleg' (preparatory college) at the end of last year. The event’s theme, “Reading Aloud Speaks Your Language,” highlighted the versatility and universal impact of stories—regardless of language or voice.

Reading Aloud Day at the 'Studienkolleg' took the form of a competition. Our students presented their entries either in groups or individually. The participants came from various countries, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Ukraine, and India. With emotional recitations of stories and original texts, the singing of Christmas carols, and creative presentations of legends, they put on a varied program.

The jury, consisting of Ellen Leuschner, Marina Matthey, Erich Cella and Dr. Stefan Kühne, evaluated the entries at the end and selected the winners. All jury members work closely with the international students. They teach and support them both during their studies and in life in Germany.

In the end, the jury was particularly impressed by three expressive presentations by international students.

The Reading Day at the 'Studienkolleg' gave the students the opportunity not only to practice speaking in German and overcome stage fright, but also to showcase their creativity and language skills. They learned how to speak confidently in front of an audience, present themselves in an engaging way, and use their body language effectively. All of this will certainly help them as they continue their studies in Germany. The event impressively demonstrated how such activities bring people from all over the world together and strengthen the sense of community at the 'Studienkolleg' (preparatory college).
