From Almaty to Zittau

Students from the German-Kazakh University on an internship at the HSZG.

From 6.6.-17.6.2016, 11 students from the Bachelor's degree course "Energy and Environmental Technology" at the German-Kazakh University (DKU) completed a study internship on the topic of "Quality, environmental and energy management systems" with their course director at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. This is the second internship that the DAAD has sponsored for DKU students at the HSZG. The first study internship took place in 2014 and 4 of the Kazakh participants at that time are now studying for a Master's degree in Integrated Management at our university in Zittau. They show us that the international cooperation project is bearing fruit and encouraging transnational study.

This year's study internship was once again geared towards getting to know the university, the study opportunities and the study city of Zittau. In addition to lectures and seminars in the field of environmental and project management, the work schedule included a variety of laboratory practicals. Four of the Kazakh students were even able to complete the study trip with a TÜV certificate for "Environmental Management Systems according to ISO 14001".

In addition to the colleagues from the Academic Administration, the students on the Master's degree courses "Integrated Management Systems" and "Integrated Management" in particular contributed greatly through their personal commitment to ensuring that our Kazakh guests felt completely at home in Zittau and were able to get to know the beautiful aspects of student life, such as hikes in the Zittau mountains, sports facilities behind the halls of residence or joint barbecue evenings, in addition to the strenuous work program. After so many impressions of Zittau, our guests said goodbye to us with an interesting presentation about Kazakhstan and Almaty. But the farewell is not final, as the two-week transfer of knowledge and culture also led to an exchange of contact details between the students. This created the conditions for international communication between the students, even beyond the boundaries of the study internship.

This year's study trip continues the traditionally good cooperation in teaching and student exchange between the DKU and the HSZG and thus strengthens the "international friendship" between the two teaching institutions.

The organizers of the study trip would like to thank the DAAD for the financial support of the trip, all colleagues of the HSZG involved in the implementation of the program, the Studentenwerk Zittau for the support with the accommodation of the students as well as the Verein für Internationales und interdisziplinäres Management e.V. for its financial contribution. Special thanks go to Ms. Simone Kunze from the International Office for her comprehensive and personal support of the students here on site.
