A lot of hiking makes you well-traveled

International Office organizes an excursion with the international students to Jonsdorf in April.

A lot of walking makes you wander - the German writer Peter Sirius was of the same opinion. With this in mind, the International Office of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences invites international students to various excursions in the surroundings of the two university towns at irregular intervals. Of course, hiking is also on the program. The first excursion in the 2023 summer semester took place in the Zittau Mountains in glorious spring weather. A total of 32 students took part, some of whom even traveled all the way from Görlitz.

A group of students who are currently studying on the DSH course led by Marina Matthey have summarized their impressions in a short report:

"On 21 April, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences organized an excursion to the Zittau Mountains in Jonsdorf. We met in front of the canteen in the afternoon and then took the bus to Jonsdorf.

Two guides were waiting for us there. We started with a short introduction and then our hike began. First we saw a door frame made of sandstone. On the way to the Nonnenfelsen we looked at the Rabenstein and the Falkenstein.  And we learned that there are also nature conservation areas in the forest that are not allowed to be entered because eagle owls live there. We continued on to the Czech-German border. It was interesting for us to see that the border is completely open and can only be recognized by border stones.

At the end of our hike, we climbed the Nonnenfelsen. This was the highlight of our hike. We had a fantastic view from there and everyone took photos. We were impressed by the nature of the Zittau Mountains, where you can really relax. We are grateful for this tour."

The next excursion will take us to Lake Berzdorf in May. More information will be sent by e-mail as usual. We look forward to welcoming many interested students again.

The excursions are organized as part of the STIBET I and DAAD Prize 2023 project funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The aim of the project and the measures carried out is, among other things, to bring the participating students into contact with the German population and to provide information about the university location and about Germany itself. The participants can of course also use and improve their existing German language skills.
