Reconciling care and work

Professor at the HSZG advises the Federal Government on the topic of reconciling care and work.

Prof. Dr. Hoff, Professor of Social Gerontology and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the independent Advisory Board for the Reconciliation of Care and Work. The committee was set up in accordance with Section 14 of the Family Caregiver Leave Act and monitors the implementation of the regulations on career breaks, in particular the newly created flexibilities in the Caregiver Leave Act and Family Caregiver Leave Act, and advises the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) and the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) in particular on their effects. The inaugural meeting of the advisory board, which consists of 21 members from employers' associations and trade unions, health and long-term care insurance funds, administration, the private sector, independent welfare organizations, academia and civil society, took place on September 25, 2015 at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ).

The discussion of specific issues and recent research findings on the compatibility of care and work is also the focus of the MA in Social Gerontology at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The MA in Social Gerontology begins every year in the summer semester. The next enrolment period ends on January 15, 2016; teaching begins at the beginning of April 2016.
