Prof. Dr. Hoff, professor of social gerontology and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, has been appointed vice chair of the independent advisory board on balancing caregiving and work. The committee was established pursuant to Section 14 of the Family Care Leave Act and monitors the implementation of regulations regarding career breaks, particularly the newly introduced flexibilities in the Care Leave Act and the Family Care Leave Act, and advises, in particular, the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth (BMFSFJ), the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS), and the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) on their implications. The inaugural meeting of the advisory board—comprising 21 members from employers’ associations and labor unions, Health and long-term care insurance funds, government agencies, the private sector, independent welfare organizations, academia, and civil society, met on September 25, 2015, at the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth (BMFSFJ).
The discussion of specific issues and recent research findings on balancing caregiving and work is also a central focus of the part-time Master’s program in Social Gerontology at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The Master’s program in Social Gerontology begins each year in the summer semester. The next enrollment deadline is January 15, 2016; classes begin in early April 2016.
