Companies as guests at the HSZG

Business representatives are always welcome guests at HSZG, because the exchange of information regarding current research, the needs of the business community, and developments at the university form the basis for good knowledge and technology transfer. For this reason, on March 16, a meeting took place for the fourth time at our higher education institution as part of the “Werkstattgespräch” event series, hosted by the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), Zittau branch, and the Dresden Chamber of Crafts.

The Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus-Dieter Haim, welcomed the guests and began by introducing the faculty. He did not shy away from addressing the issue of declining freshman enrollment in electrical engineering. In addition to fostering an exchange of ideas and initiating joint projects, this series of events is also intended to raise awareness among the general public about the degree programs and optimal study conditions at HSZG.

The topic for the evening was: “Intelligent Operation of the Power Grid with Decentralized Renewable Energy Feeders.” So, what challenges do renewable energy generators present us with? How necessary are technical adjustments to transform renewable energy systems from simple power generators into full-fledged power plants? Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Schmidt delivered a very clear and practical presentation on this topic and also introduced the interested audience to current research papers at HSZG.

After an extensive question-and-answer session, participants were also able to take a look at the faculty’s state-of-the-art laboratories.

The most important part of this event series is the “casual conversations” on the sidelines. This late afternoon once again demonstrated that there is a significant need for information among business owners and that this event format is good at overcoming the barriers to making initial contact.

The next “Workshop Discussion” will take place as scheduled in six months, on October 19. Initial suggestions have already been made regarding the topic that will be the focus of that event.
