During her stay, she actively helped organize Environment Day on November 4 at the Görlitz campus of the university, focusing on the theme “Rainforests and Cloud Forests: Nature’s Plundered Treasure Chambers,” and, together with Armin Hirche, presented DapaViva. Her presentation was titled “The Mountain That Moved and the River That Disappeared—Environmental Protection in the Colombian Andes.”
A lively exchange of ideas took place during various meetings with the Vice President for Education and International Affairs, Prof. Christa Heidger. Promising ideas for further collaboration were developed. The goal now is to bring these ideas to life. Both partners—Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the NGO “DapaViva,” with support from the University of Valle in Colombia—will contribute creatively to this effort. “DapaViva” is dedicated to the conservation and protection of the cloud forests of the western Andes.
The agreement aims to further deepen and intensify the existing collaboration.
The signatories expect particular benefits from a continuous exchange of students and researchers, especially in the fields of ecology and environmental protection. The Vice President herself is planning a faculty exchange at the Universidad del Valle for the coming year.
