From single apartments to XL shared flats - the halls of residence of Studentenwerk Dresden offer living space that fits.
At the beginning of the winter semester, 2,332 students moved into the halls of residence of Studentenwerk Dresden in Dresden, Zittau and Görlitz. This corresponds to around 20 percent of first-year students. 880 of the new students moved in in September. 46 percent of the new residents are foreign students.
The single apartments were the most popular among applicants. The Studentenwerk also offers a variety of types of shared flats - from small 2-bed flats to large 8-bed flats. Each student has a single room, with two or three residents sharing a shower and toilet. A single room in one of Studentenwerk Dresden's halls of residence costs an average of €210, while a single apartment costs around €265. The low rents, the proximity to the campus and the good transport links are particular advantages of the halls of residence.
The majority of applicants opted for the WOMIKO - Wohnen mit Kommilitonen (living with fellow students) concept when applying for accommodation. Faculties and universities are assigned to specific halls of residence. For first-semester students, this means that they can get to know their fellow students faster and better and master their studies together. In addition, students from higher semesters are available as tutors in the halls of residence.
The 118 residents in the Fritz-Löffler-Straße 16 hall of residence in Dresden come from 22 nations. These students are only in Dresden for one semester. 13 tutors offer help with administrative procedures and provide answers to questions about everyday student life. A welcome evening and other events make it easier to settle in and get to know each other.
For students who have not yet found accommodation, still has a few places available in halls of residence for immediate move-in. All that is required is an online application.
There are currently around 6,600 places in 42 halls of residence run by Studentenwerk Dresden in Dresden, Tharandt, Zittau and Görlitz. 35 percent of all places are rented to foreign students. The refurbishment of the two halls of residence on Gret-Palucca-Straße in Dresden is due to be completed by 2019.
The International Guest House of the Studentenwerk Dresden, Hochschulstraße 50 in Dresden, offers a further 310 rooms. Students from German or foreign universities can find accommodation there for a short period of time.
