Every 1st Wednesday of the month, students organize a TSCHECHISCH regulars' table. Everyone is welcome.
Speak some Czech in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy a good Czech beer, exchange ideas and make contacts. In April this year, students on the Bachelor's degree course in Business and Languages (WSTb) set up a regulars' table for anyone who wants to do just that.
In Görlitz, the restaurant "Zum gebratenen Storch", right next to the zoo, has finally offered the opportunity to be pampered with Czech dishes and a solid selection of Czech beer by a Czech team. Just the right ambience for our CZECH regulars' table.
Of course, this is a good opportunity for future translators to use the Czech language skills they have acquired during their studies. However, all other students at the university and interested parties from the region who speak some Czech, feel connected to Czech in some way or are native speakers themselves are also welcome to join the regulars' table. Your own language level is of no importance, as German can be spoken again at any time.
All Czech students at our university and all Czechs who are currently in Görlitz are also cordially invited. ERASMUS students from the Czech Republic in particular, who are only studying at our university for one semester, are also welcome to practise their German here. This creates a real win-win situation for both sides.
Nicole Bauer (WSTb14) came up with the idea for such a regulars' table during her internship semester at the Czech University of Ostrava. "There has long been a good old regulars' table tradition in Ostrava, the German regulars' table. Students, lecturers and anyone interested in the German language meet up at regular intervals. They take the opportunity to speak German. Not only to improve their foreign language, but also to talk about a wide range of topics in good company. As an Erasmus student and native German speaker, I was of course always invited and was able to make many good contacts," Nicole Bauer noted.
The enthusiasm and joy of everyone involved was infectious, so she was keen to bring this tradition back to Görlitz. With the unreserved approval of all students on the "Business and Languages" course, the way was clear for the Czech regulars' table.
"The regulars' table has also been a complete success in Görlitz. I was surprised at how quickly we got talking to each other. Even after three evenings, we've never run out of topics, neither in Czech nor in German. In a real regulars' table atmosphere, we also like to use the beer garden in front of the restaurant in the warm summer months," reports Nicole Bauer.
Our CZECH regulars' table takes place on the first Wednesday of every month and doesn't have an exam period or summer vacation.
That's why we're already meeting on July 4, 2018 for the next TSCHECHISCH regulars' table.
