We are deeply saddened to announce that the secretary of our Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Ms. Karola Sperlich, has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
Ms. Sperlich began her work at the former Zittau University of Engineering on November 15, 1977. When the university was re-established, she took on the role of secretary of the then Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
From the very beginning, she distinguished herself through her conscientious, reliable and prudent way of working. She was not just a secretary in the faculty, but it is fair to say that she was the dean's assistant. She knew everything that was going on and any member of the faculty could turn to her with their questions. She was always available to help with the day-to-day business with great commitment. Due to her many years of service, she was also the "good memory" of the faculty.
She was the calming influence for the faculty's lecturers, staff and students. She always had an open ear for the many small and large organizational problems of the students and almost always had a solution.
For many years, she was a member of our university's staff council. She also performed this function as an employee representative in an exemplary manner.
With her character and work ethic, her correctness and integrity, she was a role model and earned high recognition in the faculty and beyond.
Karola Sperlich's personality was always characterized by a high level of commitment, collegiality, unselfishness and modesty. She was highly respected by her colleagues and students for these qualities.
We will honor her memory.
Our deepest sympathy goes to her family.
On behalf of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
