Mourning for Karola Sperlich

It is with deep sadness that we must announce that the secretary of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Ms. Karola Sperlich, has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.

On November 15, 1977, Ms. Sperlich began her career at what was then the Zittau University of Engineering. When the university was reorganized, she assumed the role of secretary for the Department of Electrical Engineering.

From the very beginning, she distinguished herself through her conscientious, reliable, and prudent work ethic. She was not merely a secretary in the faculty; it is fair to say that she was the Dean’s assistant. She was well-informed about all proceedings, and every faculty member could turn to her with questions. She was always available and highly dedicated to handling day-to-day business. Thanks to her many years of service, she also served as the faculty’s “good memory.”

For the faculty members, staff, and students, she was the rock of the faculty. She always had an open ear for the students’ many small and even larger organizational problems—and almost always had a solution.

For many years, she served on our university’s Staff Council. She fulfilled this role as an employee representative in an exemplary manner.

With her character and work ethic, her fairness and integrity, she was a role model and earned high recognition not only within the faculty but also beyond.

Ms. Karola Sperlich’s character was always marked by deep dedication, collegiality, selflessness, and modesty. She was highly respected by her colleagues and students because of these qualities.

We will honor her memory.
