Traditional gases seminar revived

5th Gases Seminar by Tyczka demonstrates the properties of liquid gas with impressive experiments

On 19.06.2015, the traditional gases seminar on the application of liquefied natural gas (LNG) took place for the first time at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for students on the energy and environmental engineering course.

The seminar, initiated by Prof. em. Joachim Wilsdorf, was organized in the past by the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The company Tyczka from Gertsried near Munich is the market leader in the distribution and trading of liquefied natural gas.

The owner and managing director comes from Görlitz and therefore has close ties to the region and the university. Cooperation with Tyczka has a long tradition at the university. The annual prize awarded by the Tyczka Energy Foundation for Sustainable Energy Solutions in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has also been awarded to students at our university.

As part of the 5th Gases Seminar, Tyczka employees Mr. Huber and Mr. Schulz gave a lecture on the properties, production and use of liquid gas as well as the production and use of other technical gases. With impressive experiments, the properties of LNG were demonstrated to around 25 interested students and employees. This seminar is to be held regularly again in the future and enrich the curriculum of the STEM courses.
