On June 19, 2015, the long-standing Gase Seminar on the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was held for the first time at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for students in the energy and environmental engineering degree programme.
The seminar, founded by Prof. em. Joachim Wilsdorf, which was previously organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The company Tyczka, based in Gertsried near Munich, is the market leader in the distribution and trading of liquefied natural gas.
The owner and managing director is originally from Görlitz and thus has close ties to the region and the University. The University has a long tradition of collaboration with Tyczka. Students from our University have previously received the annual prize awarded by the Tyczka Energy Foundation for Sustainable Energy Solutions in cooperation with the Technical University of Munich and the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz.
As part of the 5th Gas Seminar, Tyczka employees Mr. Huber and Mr. Schulz gave presentations on the properties, production, and use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), as well as the production and application of other technical gases. The properties of LNG were demonstrated to approximately 25 interested students and faculty members through impressive experiments. This seminar is scheduled to be held regularly in the future and will enrich the curriculum of the STEM degree programmes.
