Great response to alumni meeting

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invited to the topic "How can we manage the energy transition?"

Zittau, 13.04.2018: A total of 177 participants from all over Germany, Switzerland and Poland accepted the invitation from the Department of Electrical Engineering to Zittau. Dr. Arnd Grießbach - a graduate  of the matriculation year 1953 - is the oldest participant at the age of 83. The youngest participant - Marco Hartmann - is a 2013 graduate and 23 years old. The remaining participants are spread across 60 graduate years.

Presentations in the plenary session made it clear that the graduates are active in all regions of Germany and beyond, many of them in positions of responsibility. The topics ranged from the demands of the energy transition on transmission system operators (50Hertz Transmission) and distribution system operators (Drewag Netz) to the issue of modern high-voltage lines. In addition, Dr. Christiane Bär (Pfisterer Sefag AG) presented the advantages of a compact line. The presentations were rounded off by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Jörg Lässig, on the exciting topic of IT security in electrical grids.

The event also provided the festive setting for the presentation of the HIGHVOLT prize of 1000 euros to Mr. Benjamin Küchler for the best diploma thesis of the past year.

The tour of the newly renovated Z I building with its modern laboratories also attracted a great deal of interest.

The evening event in the Volkshaus was a successful conclusion to an interesting day in a relaxed atmosphere with good food.
