Zittau, April 13, 2018: A total of 177 participants from all parts of Germany, Switzerland, and Poland accepted the invitation from the department of electrical engineering to come to Zittau. Dr. Arnd Grießbach—a graduate from the class of 1953—is the oldest participant at 83 years old. The youngest participant—Marco Hartmann—is a graduate from the class of 2013 and is 23 years old. The remaining participants represent 60 different graduating classes.
Presentations during the plenary session highlighted that the graduates are active in all regions of Germany and beyond, with many of them holding leadership positions. The range of topics spanned from the demands of the energy transition on transmission system operators (50Hertz Transmission) and distribution system operators (Drewag Netz) to the issue of modern high-voltage power lines. In addition, Dr. Christiane Bär (Pfisterer Sefag AG) presented the advantages of a compact power line. The presentations were rounded out by the associate dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Prof. Jörg Lässig, who spoke on the fascinating topic of IT security in electrical grids.
The event also served as a festive setting for the presentation of the HIGHVOLT Prize—worth 1,000 euros—for last year’s good Diplom thesis to Mr. Benjamin Küchler.
The tour of the newly renovated Building Z I, with its state-of-the-art laboratories, also drew a great deal of interest.
The evening event at the Volkshaus was a successful conclusion to an interesting day, spent in a cozy atmosphere with good food.
