The expectations placed on graduates now go far beyond simply mastering subject-specific knowledge. Working within project structures, as well as the various roles that are a daily reality in a corporate setting or within teams, require graduates to possess communication and organizational skills, as well as a solid grasp of the fundamentals of Business Administration and management techniques. These are crucial for assuming project or leadership responsibilities. The “Competency Program for Macro Skills” component offers training opportunities that enable students to specifically develop their skills in this context.

The first event in the project was a full-day team-building seminar for the Master's degree programmes “Integrated Management Systems” and “Integrated Management.” While the master’s students in the four-semester “integrated management” program have been studying at the University since October 2015, the master’s students in “integrated management systems” did not begin their three-semester program until early March. To help the two degree programmes get to know each other, a team-building day was organized on March 9, 2016. This is because both groups attend lectures and seminars together and will be working on various project assignments in small groups over the next two semesters. The group of 15 students and two instructors first took the narrow-gauge train to Oybin, where the trainers from “Geofux” were already waiting with instructions. From there, they embarked on a two-and-a-half-hour hike via Jonsdorf to Waltersdorf. The breaks were used for short icebreaker games. Upon arriving in Waltersdorf, the group enjoyed lunch at the Sonnenbergbaude to recharge. Under the guidance of Geofux staff, they then solved a multi-geocache. For this, the group split into two teams: “Forest Workers” and “Water Engineers.” At several stations, the participants had to solve puzzles and complete tasks to receive information or tools for the next station. A reward awaited them at the final station, which was divided among everyone. All in all, it was a very successful day that helped everyone get to know one another better and continues to have a lasting impact to this day!
