Environment Day 2016 in Zittau

Under the motto "Today's metabolism, clothes make the man", the HSZG and Zittau hosted an event in Zittau on November 9.

"Today's metabolism, clothes make the man" was the motto of this year's "Environment Day"  in Zittau, where various areas of the textile and clothing industry were examined, risks and opportunities highlighted and challenges discussed. The event was opened by the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Christa Maria Heidger, and the Mayor of Zittau, Mr. Thomas Zenker, to the delight of the organizers and everyone involved.

Many students, employees and citizens of Zittau came to the Peter-Dierich-Haus on the Zittau university campus on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 and actively participated in the panel discussion and the offers that were set up especially for this day in the foyer of the university building.

Among others, the company WESOM presented its technical textiles and informed visitors about its projects and various products. The Weltladen Zittau was also on site and presented an exhibition and products on the topic of fair fashion.

The traveling exhibition of the SMUL (Saxon State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture) was particularly interesting. It illustrated the areas of housing, mobility, nutrition and consumption and showed impressively how much space is taken up by personal lifestyles.

The event concluded with a screening of the film "The True Cost", which traces the clothing industry and shows the gap between models on the red carpet and workers in the Third World. An interesting and disturbing movie that should interest every consumer.
