Environment Day 2016

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) and the City of Zittau would like to use World Environment Day —on October 19, 2016, in Görlitz, and on November 9, 2016, in Zittau —to shed light on various sectors of the textile and apparel industry under the theme “Today’s Metabolism: Clothes Make the Man,” , highlight various aspects of the textile and apparel industry, identify risks and opportunities, and discuss challenges.

On both days, there will be plenty to explore on-site through lectures, film screenings, and exhibitions, offering a chance to delve into the history of our region, which has been profoundly shaped by the textile industry.

To set the tone, a very special kick-off event on this theme begins today . At the “Metabolism Party” in the foyer of Building G I in Görlitz at 4:00 p.m., you can experience a completely different kind of “shopping.” Bring along selected items of clothing that have been hanging in your overcrowded closet for far too long, were a bad purchase, or no longer fit properly.

On October 19, 2016, Environment Day will be held at the Hermann-Heitkamp Building (G I), Furtstraße 2, Room 0.01, in Görlitz.

To kick things off at 1:00 p.m., the “Modular System for a Sustainable Campus” project from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will be presented. Additional presentations will shed light on our regional textile history, working conditions in Indian spinning mills, and the uses of donated clothing.

Following that, the start-up company NEONON will introduce itself before the panel discussion begins, during which you are invited to join in a lively debate. To conclude the event, the University will screen the documentary “The True Cost.”

Join students, HSZG staff, and panelists in discussing the social and environmental aspects of textiles and their sustainable production.
