Open University Day well received

Some visitors traveled long distances to see the study conditions at the HSZG for themselves.

On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the time had come again. Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences opened its doors to school pupils, their parents and all other interested parties.

Prospective students took advantage of the university's offer and informed themselves about the entire range of courses on offer at both university locations, the study opportunities and the study conditions at the university location in Zittau.

"We are delighted that the Open University Day was so well received this year,"

says Dr. Stefan Kühne, Head of Academic Administration.

"Around 250 interested people were welcomed by the organizers and participants."

In addition to numerous prospective students from the region, the event also welcomed prospective students from the Dresden, Cottbus and Leipzig areas who had specifically made the journey to Zittau. They had already gathered information about the university at trade fairs or on the Internet and now wanted to see the study conditions at the university for themselves.

This year, Rector Friedrich Albrecht welcomed the guests with warm words.

"Choosing the right subject is one of the most important decisions you make in your life," he said. He encouraged the young people to take a look around the university and to talk to students from a wide range of degree courses. "Because that's where they get first-hand information," he said. "As a university, we are also interested in retaining young, intelligent people for companies, but also as young academics for the university itself,"

he said. He also recommended that guests make active use of the extensive range of events on offer at  .

First-hand information was available at the KIA (Cooperative Studies with Integrated Training) stand, where numerous interested students gathered. KIA employees and KIA students from the university's training workshop were happy to answer questions about this now very popular form of training. Next door, the university's apprenticeship training stand provided an insight into the content of practical vocational training as an "electronics technician for devices and systems".

Many visitors were impressed by the modern facilities at the university, but also by the informal atmosphere they encountered. The short lectures and laboratory tours as well as the MINT trail were very popular. The prospective students also made intensive use of the opportunity to talk to the students themselves and exchange ideas about everyday life at the university.

The lecture by Dr. Ilona Bürgel, a qualified psychologist, on the topic of "Career factor well-being"  was very well received by her audience. "Interesting, exciting and captivating" was the unanimous opinion.
