One student is campaigning for mountain bike rental on campus, with success.
In the winter semester 15/16, an open mountain bike group was formed at the HSZG through the university sports department. A group of students, staff and HSZG alumni quickly came together to tour the Zittau mountains. Among them was energy and environmental engineering student Felix Buttig, who has been an enthusiastic mountain biker for many years.
The idea for the bike rental project came to Felix during one of the first rides with the group. "One of our mountain bikers had a poor-quality bike. Even before the tour started, we thought it would be difficult for him to keep up. He really made an effort, but he would certainly have had more fun with a slightly better bike." From this point on, the 26-year-old developed the idea of offering a bike rental service on campus. On his own initiative, he approached the student council and was met with an open ear. "I'm not a StuRa member myself, but one of my fellow students is actively involved in the student council. He told me about the possibilities of funding through the student council and my idea took root." After obtaining various offers and attending several StuRa meetings, Felix's original idea was put into practice. "After about three months, the StuRa is now in possession of four Scott bikes. Thanks to a good offer, it was possible to purchase four high-quality bikes within the given budget." Felix wishes everyone lots of fun with the bikes and is looking forward to welcoming new members to the mountain bike group. Borrowing is organized by the student council. A fee of three euros is charged per loan to cover maintenance costs. If you are interested, please contact Studierendenrat at least 24 hours in advance to arrange an appointment.
The mountain bike group starts the 2016 season after the time change, i.e. on March 29. The meeting point is every Tuesday at 17:00 in front of the canteen in Zittau. Participation is of course free of charge, but please register via the university sports course offer (available from March 7). University members with disabilities have the opportunity to borrow a tandem mountain bike and an e-mountain bike. Anyone who would like to take advantage of this offer should contact Hochschulsport .
