Students welcome students

SbS students welcome the new freshmen at numerous student events.

Both during the cross-faculty / trans-faculty “Come-In” weeks and during the orientation days within the individual faculties at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the student academic advisors for the project

undefined“Diversity as a Strength”

, together with students from the self-governing committees, helped organize the vibrant, diverse, and eventful days leading up to the start of classes for the new first-year students. At both campuses, city tours, excursions, hikes, barbecue evenings, city scavenger hunts, introductory sessions, matriculation meetings, and icebreaker activities were planned and carried out.

The students’ volunteer involvement in organizing these events stood out particularly positively compared to previous years. At each location, more than 40 students were actively involved in ensuring our new students had an exciting start to their academic careers. The events were planned and implemented in cooperation with STURA, Faculty Student Committees, and other dedicated students. The activities were coordinated and co-organized by, among others, the STEM team of the “Diversity as a Strength” project, as well as numerous professors and staff members in the faculties. The work and dedication of the student volunteers from various committees and projects were once again highly commendable this year. The students’ successful networking efforts can be attributed, in part, to closer ties between the student advisory teams and the Faculty Student Committees within the faculties. The 46 student academic advisors have now taken on their role of advising, guiding, and supporting first-semester students and are available immediately to address any concerns they may have. Students can contact them via email (sbs@hszg.de), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Studierende.beraten.Studierende), or in person.

As part of the student academic advising program “Students Advise Students, additional activities will follow to connect new students with their advisors. In addition to movie and game nights, a “Long Night of Short Academic Papers” is also planned. The student academic advising teams would like to take this opportunity to wish all new students at our university a successful and worry-free first semester in Zittau and Görlitz.
