Structure, change yourself—Structure, we’ll change you! Greater Gender Equality in Structural Change —On September 16, 2022, the conference organized by the Alliance of Municipal Equal Opportunities Officers in Lausitz Amid Structural Change and the Institute for Applied Participation (ifab) e. V. with the support of the TRAWOS Institute as part of the project “Transformative Countryside? Potentials, Practices, and Alliances for Renewal in Regions Undergoing Structural Change from a Women’s Perspective.”
Against the backdrop of academic findings from the 1990s on the living conditions of women in structural change in Lausitz—with its well-known consequences of outmigration and unknown forms of exclusion—we aim to provide information about the situation of women, give them a voice, and bring their aspirations for shaping the future to the forefront.
Innovation, Participation, Representation…
…these are the topics we discuss and research in the context of today’s structural changes. Depending on the perspective involved, we are sometimes motivated, sometimes frustrated, and amazed by the answers—but also by the questions—that shape the discourse. Let’s focus on this diverse context from the perspective of women, including the opportunities and challenges they face in participating in structural change!
The fact that equal opportunities officers from Saxony have been collaborating with their counterparts from Brandenburg in an alliance since 2020 and are hosting a conference is not merely an example of successful networking among active women who are making their voices heard. Rather, it is intended to send a signal for political action and to raise awareness of gender justice in structural change.
Join us in shifting our perspective and learn more about the situation of women amid structural change in Lausitz: How can women-led innovation networks, partnerships, and initiatives drive change in our transforming society?!

The project “Transformative Land? Potential for Renewal, Practices, and Alliances in Regions Undergoing Structural Change from a Women’s Perspective,” led by Dr. Julia Gabler, is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism (SMWK).
