In the current CHE ranking, which is published in the new ZEIT Study Guide 2019/20, the fields of Electrical and Information Technology and mechatronics stood out. They scored particularly high in support for first-year students, laboratory facilities, student involvement in research, and close ties to the professional world.

Top group placings for the HSZG
This year, three faculties and six degree programs at the HSZG were scrutinized by the CHE Ranking.

There is no such thing as “the best university”—not for a single field of study, and certainly not for all fields. For example, a university may be at the forefront of research but have bad facilities for students, or it may be strong in the natural sciences but weak in the social sciences.
The ranking by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE)—based on surveys of over 150,000 students and an analysis of more than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences—is the most comprehensive and detailed comparison of higher education institutions in the German-speaking world. In Saxony, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is one of eight institutions that were recently evaluated.
This year, three faculties and six degree programs at the HSZG were scrutinized. The degree programs were evaluated based on a wide range of criteria: from the teaching units offered to the condition of the laboratories.
Our disciplines/discipline groups—biotechnology, chemistry/applied chemistry, electrical engineering and information technology, engineering sciences, mechanical engineering, and mechatronics—all scored above average, with at least one program ranking in the top tier.
The universities were divided into a top, a middle, and a bottom group for each subject and criterion. The CHE University Ranking includes both student evaluations and facts about teaching and research. The following indicators played a particularly important role:

On 292 pages, the ZEIT Study Guide publishes excerpts from the ranking and answers the most important questions about starting a degree course, helps you decide on the right subject and the right place to study and provides tips on applying and financing your studies.
