"Late shift" in three cities

On Friday, November 8, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., visitors can take a look behind the scenes at businesses in the Görlitz district. Participating companies will present themselves through short introductory presentations or offer factory tours—often while production is underway.

“Visitors can talk directly with employees, get a very personal impression of the company, and employees can even show their families their own workplace,” explains Andrea Behr, managing director of Europastadt GörlitzZgorzelec GmbH, the organization responsible for economic development in Görlitz. Together with her colleagues from the economic development agencies in Zittau and Weißwasser, she is organizing the event for the second time with the goal of giving visitors the opportunity to get to know local businesses up close and to highlight career and training opportunities in the region.

For the first time, visitors to Görlitz’s “Spätschicht” will have the opportunity to reach the companies via a free shuttle bus, making it as easy as possible to visit several businesses in one go. The three routes in total take visitors via several stops from Jakobstraße to the Hagenwerder industrial park, from the university campus to Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße, and from Hagenwerder to Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße. All three routes depart on the hour and return from the final stop to the starting point every half hour.

The “Spätschicht” project is a collaborative initiative between the economic development agencies of the three cities of Zittau, Weißwasser, and Görlitz; the Görlitz and Zittau offices of the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Dresden); and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. To organize and carry out the event, the economic development agencies of the three cities of Zittau, Weißwasser, and Görlitz submitted a grant application through the Görlitz Skilled Workforce Alliance and were approved. This initiative is co-financed with tax revenues based on the budget approved by the members of the Saxon State Parliament.
