So many happy faces

Over 350 guests celebrated the successful graduation of our graduates at the end of April.

What a great day! Wherever you looked, you could see happy, exuberant faces, often with a touch of pride. Around 350 guests came together last weekend to celebrate the successful graduation of our graduates.

A varied day program awaited the participants, who came from all corners of Germany. The campus tour in Zittau started at 12:00 noon, with Dr.-Ing. Kahnt, Prof. Dr. Wiegert, Ms. Lorenz, Mr. Rößler and Mr. Cerwinka welcoming the guests. For the parents, it was nice to get to know their children's former place of work; for our graduates, it was interesting to see the inside of buildings that they had not yet seen during their studies.

At 1:30 pm, the next highlight awaited the graduates: the ceremonial disenrolment (from university). Rector Prof. Dr. Friedrich Albrecht and Mr. Tobias Wendt, Chairman of the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, welcomed the attendees and wished that the new alumni would remain loyal to the region and the university beyond their studies.

The musical accompaniment by Fritz Wodarczack on saxophone, Felix Weickelt on trumpet, Arne Maiwald on piano and Christian Fischer on double bass provided an enthusiastic atmosphere. With much applause, the graduates were given a personal farewell by their Dean or lecturer of the respective faculty and our Rector. This year's graduation speech by Diplom-Kaufmann Felix Thurek, in which he looked back gratefully on his studies at the HSZG and called on all those present to really celebrate today, was a successful degree.

Afterwards, the 2015 graduate tree - a field maple - was planted in the Zittau student park and wish balloons were released into the air. In fine weather, the guests relaxed in the open air in the park, which is now increasingly green and was created in 2009 on the initiative of the Stura.

At 6:30 pm, the festively decorated and beautifully illuminated Mensa opened its doors and welcomed the no less festively dressed graduates and their families as well as professors to the Graduates' Ball. The Mensa team surprised the hungry guests with a fantastic buffet. Later, hips and dancing legs were swung to the Leipzig live band "Black Coffee" and the party continued into the early hours of the morning to the sounds of the Star Club DJ team.

Our graduation party is a good starting point for maintaining a lively alumni network. It also makes a valuable contribution to student recruitment. On the fringes of the event, conversations between our former students and younger guests were heard time and again, in which a course of study at the HSZG was impressively recommended. Enthusiastic parents regretted not having any more children of studyable age, but assured us that they would send their grandchildren to the HSZG. The 2015 graduation ceremony - an all-round success!

In addition to the contributors already mentioned in the text, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Kothe and the canteen team, the "J-RookerZ" dance group, the Dezibar, our hard-working assistants, the janitors Mr. Beyer and Mr. Wiechert and the participating university staff. We would also like to thank the Förderverein der Hochschule Zittau/Görlitz e.V. and the HSZG student council for their financial support.
