So much care under one roof!
Cooperation partners were officially designated as “Academic Nursing Education Institutions of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.”
It’s a done deal! After a long and intensive preparation period, the new Bachelor degree programmein “Nursing”will launch at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences starting in the upcoming 2022–23 winter semester.
“This generalist degree programme marks the beginning of a new chapter in nursing in Eastern Saxony,” says Prof. Dr. Martin Knoll with certainty.
”The founding professor of nursing science is particularly proud of the opportunity this new degree programme offers to align with high European standards in nursing, complementing the existing nursing training at vocational schools. This requires good and reliable industry partners to provide a solid professional foundation for the program’s substantial practical component.
It was precisely these 18 HSZG partners—representing a total of 70 nursing facilities in the Görlitz district—who, on Thursday, May 19, 2022, as part of their ceremonial designation as “HSZG Academic Teaching Institutions for Nursing,” along with a corresponding plaque to be displayed at their nursing facilities.
“A true flagship for the university and the respective partner institutions,” says Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch. For him, the plaques are also a sign of the university’s continuous development. In his speech, he expressly thanked Prof. Dr. Martin Knoll and Prof. Dr. Renate Heese, both of whom “worked so intensively on the legal framework” during the preparatory phase . He is convinced that the university’s team, with the support of State Secretary Dr. Andrea Franke and colleagues at the SMWK, will master the future challenges posed by the Nursing Professions Act, which must be complied with.
State Secretary Dr. Andrea Franke highlighted the university’s commitment, noting that it is now the first state university in Saxony to offer such a degree program. She is convinced that many people will benefit from the further professionalization of nursing and praised the intensive dialogue between the university’s leadership and the relevant ministries and the State Directorate of Saxony. Academically grounded nursing, she said, will be the standard of the future.
Prof. Dr. Renate Heese shares this view; she emphasized that there is sufficient empirical evidence showing that a high proportion of academically qualified nursing professionals significantly improves the quality of care. “We need nurses who are able to respond flexibly to new challenges in nursing and to develop innovative solutions.” With the launch of the new “Nursing” degree programme at the HSZG , young people are being trained for challenging roles in nursing practice and nursing science for the benefit of all.
