The MachMit team of the HSZG tests the HSZG's students on their environmental knowledge in the second environmental quiz.
On 13 and 14 June 2017, the HSZG's MachMit environmental management team held the second major environmental quiz in collaboration with the HSZG Student Council and Deutsche Umwelthilfe.
As in 2016, over one hundred students and employees took part in the event. As last year, the topic of this year's environmental quiz was the effects of using disposable cups. The focus was particularly on the quantities of disposable cups used in Germany each year and the impact of their production and disposal.
Andreas Bulcsu, HochN project team member, explains:
"These campaigns are designed to raise awareness of environmental issues among students and staff at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and to convey information and facts in a fun way."
The goal: fewer disposable cups
Deutsche Umwelthilfe launched the "Becherheld - Mehrweg to go" project in September 2015 to reduce the consumption of environmentally harmful coffee to go cups. The project formulates recommendations for action for politicians, retailers and consumers in consultation with all relevant stakeholders. At the same time, knowledge and awareness of the use and environmental impact of disposable cups are to be increased through a broad-based public discussion and possible alternatives are to be identified. The "Becherheld - Mehrweg to go" project also aims to encourage coffee shops to offer reusable cups and reward their use. (Source: www.duh.de)
The 48 winners of the environmental quiz have been notified by email and can collect the thermal mug they have won from the library in Görlitz (please note - reduced opening hours) and in Zittau in House VI, Room 109 (Monday-Wednesday and by appointment). Please have your employee or student ID ready.
The MachMit environmental management team would like to thank all participants and is already looking forward to the next campaign.
