Lecture halls and science labs open their doors on 11.11. for the "Student University on Saturday".
On Saturday, November 11, 2017, the "Student University on Saturday" begins for the 2017/18 academic year at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences will kick things off with the topic "Treasures of the past - brown coal in Upper Lusatia". Grammar school and secondary school pupils in grades 9 to 12 will have the opportunity to get a taste of university life in a student-oriented lecture and practical experiments.
The fossil fuel lignite has significantly shaped the identity of our home region - both economically and in terms of the landscape. The mining of lignite has given thousands of people a job and secured the energy supply. Now the lignite reserves are slowly but surely running out - what happens next? Graduate chemist Annett Franke and graduate engineer Eric Schön will get to the bottom of this and other questions about lignite together with the participants.
The lecture begins at 10.00 a.m. in lecture hall 0.03 of building Z IV on the Zittau campus (Theodor-Körner-Allee 8, 02763 Zittau). Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to choose one of two in-depth offers. During laboratory experiments and a simulation game, the lecturers will provide insights into the practical aspects of the topic of "lignite". The event ends at 12.30 pm.
Online registration, a link to the map of the Zittau campus and all information about the "Student University on Saturday" can be found at www.hszg.de/schuelerhochschule. We look forward to welcoming all interested students!
