Attention students: IT prize for young talent is awarded

Prizes are awarded to IT projects that master the challenges of everyday life, school or working life.

Computer-enthusiastic pupils and trainees can now take part in the IT Young Talent Award, which is currently being offered for the first time.

Under the patronage of District Administrator Bernd Lange, IT companies from the region, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the town and district of Görlitz are calling on pupils to submit their own IT projects for the Young Talent Award. Projects can be submitted that use IT to overcome minor or major challenges in everyday life, school or work - from online representation plans to mobile apps. The main prize is a laptop, with other attractive gadgets up for grabs for second and third place.

"Our aim with the competition is to awaken pupils' interest in IT as well as to promote practical projects and offer innovative solutions for school lessons," explains initiator Daniel Strauß.

He is Managing Director of InterNexum GmbH and was also able to convince Jörg Lässig, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences Görlitz/Zittau (HSZG), and business promoter Philipp von Haymerle from Europastadt GörlitzZgorzelec GmbH (EGZ) of his idea for the IT Young Talent Award. Together with other supporters, they will act as an expert jury to assess the submitted projects according to the criteria of benefit, innovative content and implementation and will announce the nominations at the end of May.

"All students who take part in the competition can really only win," says Jörg Lässig. "They will be able to attend the university's student IT events free of charge and will be invited to the university's IT summer party. This is also where the nominated projects will be presented and the winners chosen," continues Jörg Lässig.

The IT summer party at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will take place on June 12, 2018.

"It's great that the IT industry has come together here and that the competition is supported and sponsored by several IT companies. The industry is growing enormously locally and, with the help of the prize, can start to inspire students at an early stage and thus ensure the next generation of talent," says jury member and co-organizer Philipp von Haymerle, summarizing the win-win situation for students, schools and companies.

Conditions of participation:

All persons who are regular pupils at a general school, grammar school, secondary school or vocational school in the district of Görlitz at the time of project registration and are at least 14 years old are eligible to participate.
