Students laid the foundation for easier access for wheelchair users to stores in Görlitz's old town.
Many weeks and months lie behind the project team "Görlitz - An Old Town for All", in which the members have intensively prepared for 5 May 2017 and thus their day of action .
Behind everyone involved lies a day full of excitement, tension and relief. Because on 05.05.2017 the project team - thanks to the help of numerous different supporters - was able to hand over the first mobile ramp to the "Art Goreliz" bookshop.
The project was already reported on here last February. In addition to wheelchair users, it is primarily wheelchair users and parents with baby carriages who are dependent on good access to stores and cafés in German city centers. The mobile ramps should make this access easier for them in future.
The handover was embedded in a colorful program. Many guests attended, including the sign language choir "HappyHands" and the dance group from Martinshof Rothenburg Diakoniewerk. The team was also delighted to receive greetings from members of the public, including Michael Kretschmer (Member of the Bundestag), Frank Großmann (IHK Dresden branch manager in Görlitz) and Prof. Dr. Matthias Schmidt, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Many guests of honor were also present, including the representative for the disabled in the district of Görlitz, Ms. Elvira Mirle, and many others.
The feedback from Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) showed that the project is attracting a great deal of public interest. On the occasion of the campaign day, the organizers were pleased to be accompanied by MDR, which devoted a report to the topic in the Sachsenspiegel.
The students on the project team are now hoping that a new project group will emerge, particularly from their successor SHb16, which would like to continue their project. They will of course be on hand to help with this.
The project team would like to thank all supporters for their help and participation.
