As part of the EdgeVision project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is seeking to fill a position (40 hours/week) as a
Research Assistant (m/f/d) Edge Vision

to be filled for a limited period until 31 May 2026.
Embedded systems combined with AR/VR or XR technologies, along with energy-efficient hardware modules, offer a wide range of possibilities for developing intelligent systems for human–technology interaction in the field of wearables.
The aim of the project is to conduct research on artificial intelligence technologies and AR/VR or XR methodologies to identify innovative application possibilities and to test them using practical prototypes. The technical and scientific scope of the project involves the research and development of the necessary AR/VR methods to implement identified use cases and meet application requirements.
The job holder (m/f/d) will be responsible for the following tasks in particular:
- Analysis and evaluation of existing AR/VR technologies with regard to their suitability for achieving the project objective,
- Conceptual and technical planning and implementation of the experiments required to fulfill the work objectives for the AR/VR technologies used (HUD/HMD/CAVE),
- Planning and Controlling the testing of functional models and sample applications,
- Development of specific requirements in cooperation with the project partners,
- Evaluation and refinement of the developed AR/VR models and methods in light of the identified requirements,
- Preparation and presentation of project reports and scientific papers.
The following knowledge and skills are required
- Preferably a scientific university degree in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science, mechatronics, or technical physics (at least a B.Sc., M.Sc., Diplom-Ing., Diplom-Inf., or comparable degree),
- Specialized knowledge and experience in the areas of AR/VR,
- Experience in software development using C#, C/C++, or other high-level languages, as well as common software development tools,
- Experience with visualization tools and methods,
- Experience in preparing scientific publications,
- Proficiency in spoken and written German and/or English (B2) (project language: German),
- A confident demeanor and strong communication skills.
The following are also desirable
- Experience
- with common office software,
- with AR/VR frameworks and AR/VR hardware,
- in project management.

Remuneration will be paid at salary grade 13 TV-L if you hold a scientific university degree and meet the additional personal requirements. If you have a university degree such as a Diplom (FH), a Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent, you may be placed in a graduated requirement level up to salary grade 12 TV-L. The primary place of work is Zittau. A probationary period is required.
