For an emission-free future

Progress is being made with the hydrogen scooter

The frame has been assembled, the electronic components have been wired and installed, and the sensors for the planned autonomous driving system have been installed. Work on the hydrogen scooter—a joint project between Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and Fraunhofer IWU—has been progressing well since this spring. Originally launched as a student project, the work begun during the semester was continued and has now been partially put into operation.

What’s still missing?

The core component for autonomous driving: the control system. For example, the handlebars cannot yet turn on their own. The final product is intended to clearly demonstrate the wide range of expertise that HSZG and Fraunhofer IWU can offer in the key technologies of today and tomorrow. The expertise ranges from mechatronics, design, and electrical engineering to programming and image recognition using artificial intelligence.

In the future, the scooter will be “refueled” for short test runs in the parking lot near Building 7 using an in-house electrolysis station.
