Seven innovation projects from Lausitz have the chance to win the Lausitz Science Transfer Prize LWTP 2020.

In February, the participating partners presented their projects to a jury. At the same time, they submitted their projects for consideration for the LWTP 2020 award. Following the selection process, the winners will be honored and announced in June. The Lausitz Economic Initiative has offered prize money totaling 10,000 euros. This year, the first prize of 5,000 euros is sponsored by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (Saxon Development Bank).

“The projects submitted to the jury this year for the Lusatian Science Transfer Prize make it clear: across all industries and regions of Lusatia, there are small and medium-sized enterprises that invest in research and development and bring strong partners on board to do so. It is precisely this diversity of innovation that we need in Lusatia. I am well aware that it is particularly challenging for SMEs to find the time, personnel, and funds for research and development alongside their day-to-day business operations. With the LWTP, we want to highlight good and successful examples that demonstrate that the effort is worthwhile and thereby encourage companies to follow in the footsteps of the nominees presented today.”


The HSZG is also involved in one of the innovative projects in collaboration with KommWohnen Service GmbH. The project aims to integrate technical assistance systems into the daily lives of older adults. The goal is to make everyday life easier and to sustainably improve quality of life. By implementing these technologies in a senior-friendly living facility, they are tested in a real-world setting and continuously optimized.

  • Development of a test rig to determine the erosive wear of bulk solids
    • Project participants: Kreisel GmbH & Co. KG with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Department of Machine Tools
    • Project duration: October 2018 to September 2019
    • Innovation : The project participants have developed a measuring device that determines the wear of bulk materials. The knowledge gained can be used to optimize conveying and logistics processes, as the wear properties have a direct influence on the service life of the systems.



  • Automation of udder care
    • Project participants: Duräumat-Agrotec Agrartechnik GmbH with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Department of Machine Tools
    • Project duration: 2016 to 2019
    • Innovation : The partners involved have developed an automated udder spraying device that enables cows' udders to be cleaned regardless of time and place. This prevents animal diseases and thus ensures an important criterion for milk quality.
  • Position sensor-controlled lightweight construction - active lifter for use in the outpatient care sector
    • Project participants: Großenhainer Maschinenbau GmbH with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Institute of Medical Technology and the Chair of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Design
    • Project duration: May 2016 to September 2018
    • Innovation: The project partners involved have developed a care lift that is mobile at 18 kg and can withstand loads of up to 130 kg. This closes a gap in the market and is an important potential aid, particularly for outpatient care, e.g. for transporting people in need of care.
  • Feasibility study for the construction of a mobile transportation device for awnings and patio roofs
    • Project participants: MB-LUX GmbH Rolladenbau with Wildau University of Applied Sciences, Tool Design Department
    • Project duration: April 2018 to July 2018The project partners involved have developed a mobile
    • innovation: transport wagon for the assembly of awnings and patio roofs. This will eliminate the need to work with large, heavy assemblies and individual parts in the future, resulting in significant time savings and an increase in work productivity.
  • Project development for sustainable Lausitz mining succession
    • Project participants: GMB GmbH with IURS e. V. and BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg
    • Project duration: February 2017 to December 2019
    • Innovation : Among other things, the project partners have developed a new process for neutralizing acidic open-cast mine water, which is significantly more effective than conventional methods. Other technical processes for recultivating opencast mines have also been developed. This can make a significant contribution to sustainability in the post-mining landscape.
  • Development of a novel and modular lightweight solar-air collector system for ventilation and heating systems in monolithic plastic construction
    • Project participants: ETAPART AG with BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, Department of Polymer-based Lightweight Construction
    • Project duration: March 2020 to February 2022
    • Innovation: The project is developing an innovative solar air collector with a design that offers optimum aerodynamics. In addition, the use of plastic instead of metallic materials enables weight savings of up to 87%.
