Our university is using the BUND campaign week from September 19 to 26 as an impetus for plastic-free coffee enjoyment!
Together with our partner Automatendienst Locke, our university is launching an initiative to make the coffee and snack vending machines in the university buildings more sustainable.
As a first step, MACH MIT stickers will be affixed to the vending machines at the start of the BUND Görlitz local group's "Plastic-free - I'm in" campaign week. We want to draw attention to the fact that coffee, cocoa & Co can also be dispensed without plastic cups. All we need to do is bring our own cup from the office or our thermo mug from our rucksack. These fit into the dispensing opening of the machines and are recognized by a light barrier. We can see this very clearly from the display label "Without cup". We then select our desired hot drink as usual, which is poured directly into the cup after inserting a coin. This is actually a wonderfully simple and efficient way of making our everyday university life more sustainable and helping to reduce the annual consumption of 2.8 billion disposable coffee-to-go cups - enough to circumnavigate the globe seven times - according to the Federal Environment Agency.
We would like to thank our partner Automatendienst Locke, who supports our efforts to reduce waste, plastic, energy and raw materials, as well as our HSZG printing and graphics service, who very quickly designed the beautiful stickers.
