Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies invites you to the lecture series: "The Stranger and the Other"
The question of what is foreign and what is one's own is the starting point of the current party-political upheavals, not only in the east of the Federal Republic.
The lecture series "The Stranger and the Other" as part of the Görlitz East-West College aims to contribute to sharpening the alien competence of Görlitz students and interested citizens by reflecting on and discussing the topic from very different perspectives.
What does it look like in nature (Xylander)? How do young migrants use media (Hagen)? What requirements must the "New German" meet (Münkler)? What did the most influential German philiosopher of his time, Lotze from Bautzen, say (Hosang)? What does foreignness mean for the art form of opera (Dammann), for Polish music (Różańska), for the current art scene (Müller)? What do the Reichsbürger dream of (Trept)? How did Taylor lay the foundations for a theory of multiculturalism (Tschiche)? What role does foreignness vs. uniqueness play in Wroclaw, the European Capital of Culture 2016 (Haase)?
Students, interested citizens and high school pupils are cordially invited to take part in the lectures of the Ost-West-Kolleg and to discuss with the speakers. The lecture series takes place every Thursday at 16:15 - 17:45 in building G I, Brückenstr. 1, room 3.02.
The event is organized by the Faculty of Management and Cultural Studies at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with the Institute for Cultural Infrastructure Saxony, the Catholic Academy in Berlin and the Protestant Academy in Berlin. Any changes to the dates can be found on the faculty's website.
We look forward to seeing you there!
