Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences mourns the loss of Prof. Dr. sc. oec. Peter Hedrich, founding dean of the Department of Economics from 1992 to 1997.
Prof. Hedrich belonged to the generation of university lecturers who actively shaped the institutional and content-related reconstruction of the university landscape after German reunification. As post-reunification dean, course director and founding dean, his aim was to preserve what was tried and tested while at the same time developing sustainable structures for new social conditions. The combination of a scientific foundation, practical training and clearly structured courses of study had a decisive influence on the development of economics in the early years of the university.
He placed particular emphasis on careful appointment procedures and cooperation with colleagues from different academic traditions. He saw the exchange between East and West German university experiences as an opportunity to learn from each other and to jointly create sustainable academic structures. Many graduates who hold positions of responsibility today owe their education to this development phase.
Before joining the university, Prof. Hedrich had already worked at several academic institutions, including the Technical University of Dresden. His work was always driven by the aspiration to anchor sustainable and responsible thinking in teaching and organization.
In Prof. Hedrich, the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has lost a personality from the founding period who had a decisive influence on the development of economics. We will honor his memory.
