Students in Görlitz get to experience the world—this semester, the Orient! We cordially invite you to the Art Night on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., at Building Klingewalde, Klingewalde 40, 02828 Görlitz. The students in the culture and management program, their instructors, and our guests have explored the theme “The Orient and the Evening Star” and look forward to presenting the results to you through music, performance, and visual art.
The concept of the “full plate” once sparked the European Crusades to the Orient. We owe countless cultural elements to the latter: bells, the monastery garden, the inspiration for Dante’s *Divine Comedy*, the guitar (Persian: *tar*), and Mozart’s *Serail*; the Enlightenment thinkers their coffee; and Goethe his love songs. Indeed, even the establishment of Lutheran doctrine would hardly have been possible without the indirect assistance of the Ottoman sultan. Without the Orient, there would be no Occident. Over both regions, the evening star of love is constantly transformed into the morning star of an active new beginning.
Admission is free. Thanks to the kind support of the Landskron Brewery, refreshments will be provided, and with the help of the 'Studentenwerk' (student union) and the Faculty Student Committee, music will continue well into the night.
