Students in Görlitz get to experience the world—this semester, the Orient! We cordially invite you to Art Night on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., at Building Klingewalde, Klingewalde 40, 02828 Görlitz. The students in the culture and management program, their instructors, and our guests have explored the theme “The Orient and the Evening Star” and look forward to presenting the results to you through music, performance, and art.
The concept of the “full plate” once sparked the European Crusades into the Orient. We owe countless cultural elements to the latter: the bells, the monastery garden, the inspiration for Dante’s Divine Comedy, the guitar (Persian: tar), and Mozart’s *Serail*; the Enlightenment thinkers their coffee; Goethe his love songs. Yes, even the establishment of Lutheran doctrine would hardly have been possible without the indirect help of the Ottoman sultan. Without the Orient, there would be no Occident. Over both regions, the evening star of love repeatedly transforms into the morning star of an active new beginning.
Admission is free. Thanks to the kind support of the Landskron Brewery, refreshments will be provided, and with the help of the Dresden Student Services and the Faculty Student Committee, music will continue well into the night.
