Full steam ahead!

Once again this year, the HSZG participated in the Historik-Mobil Festival. For the 11th time, the festival treated visitors to nostalgic experiences on the tracks of the Zittau Narrow-Gauge Railroad and in the Zittau Mountains.

The technical facilities at the “Zittau-Süd” narrow-gauge station have been reconstructed in recent years under the direction of adjunct professor Patrick Hornung, allowing visitors to gain vivid insights into railway operations and the philosophy behind Control and safety technology. The greatest reward for the participants was the visitors’ sustained and keen interest. Younger visitors, in particular, took advantage of the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into an interesting career field. After all, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, in collaboration with DB Netz AG, offers a dual degree program with a specialization in railway control and safety technology.

Since 2005, KIA students in the Automation Technology degree programme at our university have been trained for DB Netz AG. As part of the class / course on the compulsory elective modules in railway-specific Control and safety technology, a close collaboration has been established with the Sächsisch-Oberlausitzer Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH (SOEG). SOEG operates the Zittau narrow-gauge railway to Oybin and Jonsdorf.
