Full steam ahead

The HSZG welcomes the new KIA students of Deutsche Bahn with a trip to the Zittau Mountains.

On Friday, August 29, Zittau/Görlitz University warmly welcomed its ten new KIA students from Deutsche Bahn. As is tradition, the event focused on giving the first-year students the opportunity to get to know the upperclassmen. A varied program of activities was designed to encourage lively discussion and foster a sense of community among the student body.

After traveling together, the group began with a ride on the historic narrow-gauge railroad, which provided an atmospheric start to the day. To refuel, everyone enjoyed a barbecue together at the Steam Train Café in Oybin, which provided an opportunity for initial conversations and making new connections. The rest of the program took the students on a hike to Töpfer, where experiencing nature and physical activity were equally the focus. The students spent the evening together, exploring Zittau’s dining scene.

The second day was all about railroads. The Olbersdorfer See Mine Railroad Association offered interesting insights into the region’s cultural and technological history. Of course, a ride on the mine railroad was a must. Group sports activities rounded out the day, further strengthening the participants’ team spirit.

This welcome program laid a solid foundation for camaraderie in the new academic year. The university is delighted to welcome its new students into the community and, together with students from all classes, looks forward to a diverse and successful academic experience.
