To the roots of microbiology with ERASMUS

Molecular biotechnology student completes internship semester and bachelor thesis at the 'Institut Pasteur' in Paris.

The Institut Pasteur in Paris is one of the world's most renowned research institutes in the field of research into microorganisms, infectious diseases and vaccines. It was founded in 1887 by Louis Pasteur, one of the 'fathers of microbiology' alongside Robert Koch. Anne Jordan, a student of molecular biotechnology at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, was able to lay the experimental foundations for her bachelor's thesis here during a six-month internship. She received financial support from the ERASMUS program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

The internship semester is an integral part of the Bachelor's degree courses at the Faculty of Environmental and Natural Sciences and offers the opportunity to carry out research work at university, public or commercial institutions throughout the entire 6th semester. Students are increasingly taking advantage of the opportunity to spend a longer period abroad. For example, students from the same year were employed at universities in Basel and Prague. Students can obtain information about the possibility of funding for a stay abroad from the Department of Studies and International Affairs or from the ERASMUS representatives of the faculties.

You can read a full report by Ms. Jordan about her internship semester in France on the university's 'Hin und weg' blog .
