Lions Club Görlitz visits Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The presentation of selected mechanical engineering and energy technology laboratories received recognition.

On 17.03.2015, the members of the Lions Club Görlitz met under the leadership of their current president, our rector Prof. Dr. phil. Friedrich Albrecht, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

In addition to club work, the focus was on getting to know selected mechanical engineering and energy technology laboratories. The visitors were given an insight into the laboratories for production technology, production measurement technology and the thermochemical test field (TCV). Here they were able to gain a lasting impression of the current status of research activities in the field of wood gasification plants for power generation in the power range below 100 KW, expertly guided by the research staff, Mr. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Bert Salomo and Mr. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Martin Kurz.

In the production technology laboratory, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerlinde Kretschmar and Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Ralph Heidrich simulated and practically demonstrated a complete production process - from the removal of raw parts to the storage of a fully assembled product. The complex laboratory equipment, including the two articulated robots, was put to impressive use.

In the production metrology laboratory , our guests were particularly interested in the recently acquired optical 3D scanner. Mr. M.A. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Martin Sturm and Mr. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Wolfgang Meinck demonstrated to the very knowledgeable and interested audience how a complex plastic component from the automotive industry can be captured three-dimensionally within a few minutes with the help of this ultra-modern measuring system and evaluated with regard to certain requirements.

The members of the Görlitz Lions Club were very appreciative and impressed by the possibilities and activities of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in research and contemporary engineering education. Among them are many managers from the regional economy, for whom the performance of our university is particularly important.
