Annual Meeting Between the University and the HDS
The discussion focused on the quality of teaching, successful learning, and forward-looking higher education.
How can we best support good teaching, successful learning, and a modern higher education experience at our university? This was the focus of the annual meeting between Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the Saxon Center for Higher Education Pedagogy (HDS).
During the annual meeting between our university and the HDS, the topics of good teaching, successful learning, and contemporary higher education were discussed. The meeting, which was attended by Dr. Claudia Bade as a guest representing the HDS, took place in the summer of 2023.
One piece of welcome news was the appointment of Vice President Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Sophia Keil to the HDS Executive Board. This position gives our university an important voice in the strategic management of the HDS in line with Saxony’s higher education development plan. In this role, she intends to advocate in particular for the development of needs-based continuing education programs for all faculty members. The Executive Board receives recommendations from the Board of Trustees and represents the HDS in national and international higher education circles. In addition, it approves the HDS’s budget, appoints members of the Board of Trustees, and reports to the Supervisory Board.
The annual meeting began with a warm welcome from HSZG Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, who emphasized the importance of good cooperation between our university and the HDS. The discussion focused on various topics, including the HSZG’s understanding of its role, the presentation of the HDS’s annual plan, and a summary by the lecturer on higher education pedagogy. Particular attention was paid to the continuing education programs in university pedagogy, which were developed specifically for professors at universities of applied sciences.
The annual meeting between our university and the HDS was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our shared vision of excellent teaching and contemporary higher education.
Our annual dialogue between the HDS and participating universities on academic teaching development serves as an important platform for examining the symbiotic relationship between teaching quality and successful learning throughout Saxony. In a forward-looking higher education system, the goal is not only to impart knowledge, but also to inspire people and foster a culture of innovation.
The summary of the annual meeting makes it clear that the partnership between our university and HDS is of great importance. Together, we support faculty members to promote good teaching and successful learning. Our goal is to provide excellent instruction that optimally prepares students for their professional and social futures.
The results of the annual meeting reflect the joint efforts of both institutions to improve the quality of teaching and provide students with an inspiring and forward-looking education.
In conclusion, we invite all stakeholders in the educational sector at our university to actively engage with the question of how good teaching and successful learning can be supported, particularly through university pedagogy. Please join us in this dialogue. It is our shared responsibility to continuously improve teaching and provide students with a first-class education.
The programs offered by the Saxony Center for Higher Education Pedagogy (HDS) are designed for instructors at various levels of experience, from different categories, and across various departments who wish to engage in a structured way with selected topics in higher education pedagogy and/or simply want to highlight their commitment to teaching.
