Shaping teaching in times of change

The annual meeting between HSZG and the Saxony Center for University Pedagogy focused on a joint strategy for a sustainable university.

Ensuring Good Teaching

The annual meeting between Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) and the Saxony Center for Higher Education Pedagogy (HDS) focused on key issues in strategic teaching development. Against the backdrop of societal, technological, and institutional transformation processes, discussions centered on how to ensure and further develop good teaching, successful learning, and sustainable academic structures in the long term.

The importance of transformation competence and future skills for shaping the HSZG’s profile was emphasized. Topics such as the development of English-language degree programs, internationalization, addressing declining enrollment in individual degree programs, and the structural integration of higher education pedagogy into future organizational models were central points of discussion. There was consensus that teaching quality requires targeted autonomy, reliable framework conditions, and systematic support for faculty.

Another focus was on the strategic orientation of teaching in the context of artificial intelligence, sustainable learning processes, and students’ mental health. In this regard, the role of statewide networks, joint project proposals, and innovative continuing education formats was emphasized as a key lever for the further development of higher education teaching in Saxony. The close cooperation between HSZG and HDS was once again confirmed as a cornerstone of future-oriented higher education development.

High-quality teaching arises when faculty commitment is combined with clear strategies and supportive structures. The annual review demonstrates how important it is to consistently integrate institutional development and instructional design.

Especially in times of profound change, ongoing exchange strengthens universities. The dialogue with the HSZG illustrates how joint strategies can be developed to strengthen teaching, International Affairs, and sustainability.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Bade, Scientific Managing Director of the HDS

The annual meeting underscores the shared responsibility of the university and HDS to effectively support faculty and enable students to engage in sustainable, future-oriented learning processes. At the same time, it serves as an important foundation for further strategic decisions and joint initiatives in the coming years.

Higher education pedagogy is more than just professional development. It is a strategic tool for making teaching, academic structures, and learning cultures fit for the future.
