Bibigul Sembayeva and Anastassiya Pryatko, students in the “integrated management” master’s program, and Zonia-Stefania Szymanowski, a faculty member in the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies, enjoyed a very special evening last week at the State Parliament in Dresden. Geert Mackenroth, Saxony’s Commissioner for Foreigners and Integration, along with State Parliament President Dr. Matthias Rößler, had extended an invitation to a parliamentary evening there.
Geert Mackenroth said in advance: “In our Saxon research institutes, universities, and colleges, foreign employees—including university faculty members such as group leaders, assistant professors, and lecturers—are an integral part of the community and a pillar of support. It is important to me to raise awareness of and recognize their valuable contribution to the quality of Saxony as a center of science, especially since this group does not have its own ‘lobby.’” The three representatives from our university took full advantage of the opportunity to engage in conversation with international faculty members from other Saxon universities, members of the Saxon State Parliament, and members of the cabinet.
“We met many interesting people and discussed not only the challenges but also the opportunities available to international students and researchers in Saxony. It’s fascinating how many doors open for determined students once they are aware of the many opportunities on offer.” The Parliamentary Evening took place in this format and with this group of participants for the first time, and if it were up to our students, it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
