On January 8, an information day on sustainability in the textile industry was held in Zittau with a clothes swap.
On January 8, an information day on sustainability in the textile industry, featuring a clothing swap, took place in Zittau. The students of the NÖb15 class hosted an afternoon dedicated to sustainability in the textile industry on January 8.
The event kicked off at 2:00 p.m. in Room 1.01 in Building IVb with a welcome address, followed by presentations and a discussion session.
First, Sigrid Münzberg introduced herself and “SEKUNDÄR-SCHiCK.” The certified fashion designer is fully dedicated to upcycling used clothing—because less consumption is more. She shares this message in schools and also offers courses and DIY tutorials on her blog.
Unfortunately, the company “Räubersachen,” which rents out eco-friendly children’s clothing, was unable to attend in person, but still provided answers to questions submitted in advance.
Instead, Nina Krake from “ForSchur” explained how old virgin wool sweaters are transformed into (not only) new children’s clothing and what makes this material so special.
The event concluded with a film about the Zurich-based company “Qwstion,” which uses not only organic cotton but also banana fibers for bags and backpacks.
At the same time, Greenpeace and sneep hosted a clothing swap from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., to which people could contribute unwanted clothing, bags, shoes, etc.
