Sound through the pre-Christmas season

A saxophone quartet filled the corridors of the university with Christmas tunes and delighted the audience.

Friedrich Wodarczack (tenor saxophone), Sabine Scholz (soprano saxophone) and Reiner Schulz (baritone saxophone) as well as Ulrike Schulze from BSZ-Zittau (alto saxophone) followed the spontaneous idea of serenading the faculties as a saxophone quartet.

As all of them are musically trained, there was no need for extensive rehearsals to put together the entertaining program. The first performance on December 9 took place in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where a considerable number of listeners (staff and students) gathered in the stairwell and corridor area on the first floor. The performance of around 15 minutes was met with much applause. After passing the acid test, the quartet performed three times in a row at different locations on campus on December 13. At lunchtime, the quartet played in the foyer of the refectory and then immediately afterwards in the foyer of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Engineering. The performance day ended with a serenade at the Beruflisches Schulzentrum Zittau. The Christmas sounds were received with great joy everywhere.

On December 15, the last performance took place in House I, as the Rectorate was also to enjoy the Christmas sounds. Unfortunately, Rector Prof. Albrecht was unable to be in Görlitz that day, but Vice-Rector Prof. Zschunke and other members of the Rectorate as well as several members of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science were present and applauded enthusiastically. The quartet would also have liked to play at the other faculties and institutes of the HSZG, but unfortunately this was not possible due to scheduling reasons. The musicians will ask Santa Claus to take this into consideration for next year and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
